In early 2016, Berlin-based photographer Sven Richter made several trips to the notorious refugee camp in Idomeni, Greece to document the crisis and gain an in-depth perspective on what has been considered the largest migration in Europe since WWII.
Shooting on his large format Toyo 45AII with a focus on black and white portraiture his photographs give testament into the lives of the refugees living in what Time Magazine has described as, “a place not fit for humans.” Printed in large format 60 by 80 centimeters his photographs on display will give viewers the opportunity to engage with his subjects in a more personal way than the traditional images used by media in the news.
After being evacuated in May 2016, Sven’s photographs remain some of the only large format photographs of a camp once inhabited by over 15,000 refugees.
Come out to Dorcol Platz on June 24th, 2016 at 20:00 to take part in his moving exhibition, Memories of Idomeni. There will be an extended viewing period over the course of the weekend.
